Gender imbalance in China is severe. In southern villages, misogyny is extreme, and female children are either aborted, abandoned or even sold. These innocent newborns are like larvae in cocoons, and pass away before they mature. Women do not have the status and respect they deserve. This makes me think of insects which are repulsive to many people.

Fragility, and natural and vivacious beauty are common to  insects and women. The umbilical cord, the soft placenta, the larvae, these are so common that we overlook their uniqueness. Stepping away from a standard point of view, from a more tender perspective, we see that these are worth protecting. We thus need to wake the feminine consciousness, to call on women to critique, debate, and judiciously parley with responsibilities and characteristics enforced by society.
