Pike

Pike

Self-protection is natural. Spikes radiating out could lead to self-protection or attack. Spikes are points reaching out to feel the environment and the temperature. They are hesitant and suspicious, sensitive and intricate, and very easily damaged.

Caterpillars are the form taken between hatching from larvae and metamorphosis into adult forms, corresponding to our youth. They are neither as agile nor as spectacular as the butterfly. They have also lost the hidden mystique of the larva. They are seen as disgusting by the public because of misconceptions. Even though they pretend to be aggressive through their vivid colors and their spikes, they are in truth soft. These two works explore the visual effect and symbolism of spikes, and are part of the transition into the feminist theme.
